
THE ROLE OF OUR ISTANBUL HEMATOLOGY ASSOCIATION
Dear Colleagues, Our association was established to advance scientific research in the field of hematology, increase the exchange of knowledge, support research, and foster solidarity among our colleagues; to bring together specialists working in this field and organize research and educational programs to further our collective expertise; and to raise awareness about blood disorders through social responsibility projects.
We believe that throughout all of our Association’s activities, we will work together to create opportunities for knowledge sharing, the exchange of experiences, and new collaborations. On this occasion, we would be honored to have you join us and to achieve even greater successes together in the field of hematology.


BLOOD CELLS

Red blood cells (erythrocytes): These are oxygen-carrying cells. Their numbers can decrease in conditions such as anemia.

White blood cells (leukocytes): These cells protect the body against infections. In types of cancer such as leukemia, their numbers can increase abnormally.

Platelets : These cells play a role in blood clotting. A decrease in platelet count can increase the risk of bleeding.

BLOOD DISEASES
Anemia : These are oxygen-carrying cells. In conditions like anemia, their numbers can decrease.
Leukemia : These are cells that protect the body against infections. In types of cancer like leukemia, their numbers can increase abnormally.
Lymphoma: These are cells that play a role in blood clotting. A decrease in platelet count can increase the risk of bleeding.
Hemophilia : A genetic disorder in which the blood's ability to clot is impaired.

ABOUT HEMATOLOGY
Hematology is the branch of medicine that studies blood and blood-related diseases. This field deals with the production, function, and diseases of blood cells. Hematologists are doctors who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of various blood disorders such as anemia, leukemia, lymphoma, and platelet disorders.
